Please see the message below from the Rancho and Russell Wrestling Coaching Staff:

Rancho & Russell Middle School Wrestling Teams
 For 7th & 8th Grade Students

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to announce the launch of the first-ever Rancho and Russell Middle School Wrestling Teams! This program will bring together students from both schools to learn the sport of wrestling, build school pride, and develop important life skills through hard work, teamwork, and commitment.

Program Details

  • First Practice: October 2, 2025

  • Practice Days/Times:

    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 6:00 – 7:45 p.m.

    • Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

  • Practice Location: Milpitas High School Mini Gym (Wrestling Room)

  • Cost: FREE

  • Head Coach: Roberto Clemente

  • Assistant Coaches: Charles Ibo, Ralph Flores, Jesse Huro, Jackie Hom, Jesse Arellano, Win Thor

  • Junior Coaches: Pratham Gajjar, Ethan Hom, Urija Flores

Mission Statement:

Our middle school wrestling program is dedicated to developing a positive attitude toward wrestling, academics, and family. Through hard work, commitment, and caring, we aim to help students grow as individuals both on and off the mat. We are committed to supporting Rancho and Russell student-athletes in reaching their fullest potential.

Tradition Never Graduates!

Season & Competitions:

  • Length of Season: Month of October

  • Culminating Events:

    • A dual meet between Rancho and Russell in late October

    • A weekend tournament (date TBA)

  • Additional Tournaments: Some Saturday competitions may be scheduled (8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.).

  • Transportation: Wrestlers must arrange their own transportation to all events.

  • Participation in competitions is encouraged but not required.

Uniforms & Equipment:

  • Team shirts will be issued to all wrestlers.

  • Students should wear workout clothes (not PE clothes) and bring an extra set for practices.

  • Wrestling shoes are required for competitions (available online or in athletic stores). Please purchase one size larger for growth.

  • Athletic shoes are required for conditioning outside.

  • Headgear is optional.

  • Mouthpieces are required for students with braces.

  • Please: no belts, clips, metal on shorts/shoes, jewelry, heavy makeup, or hair gels.

  • Female wrestlers should wear a sports bra under their practice shirt.

Health & Hygiene Expectations:

  • Wrestlers should shower immediately after practice to prevent skin issues and maintain good hygiene.

  • Students with asthma should bring inhalers and inform coaches.

  • Fingernails must be clipped short before the first practice and maintained weekly.

  • Long hair must be tied back.

Commitment & Safety:

Wrestling is a demanding but rewarding sport. Regular attendance is essential for learning skills and ensuring safety. Wrestlers will be grouped by weight for both practices and competitions. Our top priority is that all athletes learn the fundamentals in a safe, supportive environment.
