8th Grade Promotion Information for 8th Grade Parents

What an exciting time!  Your child will be promoting to 9th grade, and Russell will be celebrating this special milestone at Milpitas High School on May 31st  at 4:00 p.m.  This ceremony is a privilege for all students who have met the promotion requirements.  To promote from grade 8 to high school, students must have an overall grade point average of 1.75 in all classes for the combined three trimesters.

To assist you with proper planning of the event, please note the following schedule.

  1. Tuesday, May 31st, 8th grade students will come to school as usual at 8:30 a.m.  We will walk to Milpitas High School for the mandatory rehearsal.  Students will be released at approximately 11 a.m. from MHS to go home and get ready for the event. IMPORTANT: Students may walk home, take the transit, or be picked-up by a parent.  If you are do not want your students to be dismissed early from practice, they will return to Russell School until 1:20 p.m.  No student will be allowed to remain on the MHS campus.

  2. At 3:00 p.m., students must report to the MHS gym.  Students should bring their promotion gowns to the MHS gym. Only students and staff will be admitted into the gym.

  3. Between 3:30 and 3:55 p.m., family and friends should find a seat in the bleachers.

  4. At 4:00 p.m., students will file down the bleachers and take a seat for the promotion ceremony which begins at 4:00 p.m. You may invite as many family members as you choose to the event.

  5. Please be respectful of others in the stands and refrain from using any type of noisemakers.   There is a no balloon policy at all graduations and ceremonies held at MHS.  You will not be allowed to bring them into the facility.

Because students will be wearing a promotion gown during the ceremony, the only dress code reminder is that no heels may be worn on the MHS field.   Medals received at the Awards Assembly should be worn.  Additional decorative leis may be worn during the ceremony.
