Thomas Russell News

April is Poetry month at the Milpitas Library.  We have great news:  Through the month of April over a hundred artworks by Russell art students will be displayed in the library (in the main lobby and the teen center).  Russell's art students wrote Haiku poems and then created mixed-media artworks with old books and paint.  Don't miss out, these are awesome works of art!Library.jpg

Statewide Assessment

This year our students at Thomas Russell Middle School in grades 7–8 and will be participating in the first operational Smarter Balance Test. This means they will receive full-length tests for both English language arts/literacy and mathematics, with approximately eight to ten hours of total testing time for each student.

Each test English Language Arts and Math has three parts:

  1. Computer Adaptive Test Known as CAT

  2. Classroom Activity

  3. Performance Task known as PT

Our testing window is from April 13 to May 1, 2015. We want to thank you in advance for your support in making sure your children are here on time everyday as doing make up sessions will prove to be extremely challenging.

If you would like anymore information, please visit the CDE's Smarter Balanced Assessment System Web page for additional information about the Smarter Balanced Assessment System.

In addition, the PTA has created a Fact Sheet that is helpful to parents.  There are a few helpful videos that might be of interest. Video 1 Video 2
